Recent Events and New Beach Ferry Schedule

The repairs to the Beach Ferry have been completed. Due to misinformation being circulated in the community wrongfully alleging one of the Captains of having a criminal record, that Captain had to be removed from duty. His federal background check done by the United States Coast Guard was clear and the South Venice Beach Endowment Trust (SVBET) has a right to rely on this. Further, his recent background check, which he consented to, was clear of any criminal records. The negativity was too much for the Captain and the SVBET to overcome.

The SVBET will be able to reopen the ferry on a LIMITED schedule beginning May 7, 2024.  Starting May 7, 2024, the Beach Ferry will run TUESDAY-SUNDAY 9:30am-6:30pm.  The Beach Ferry will be closed Monday. The last Ferry to the beach is 5:30pm.  Everyone must be off of the beach on the last Ferry to the mainland at 6:30pm.  This will be the schedule until further notice.

So sorry for Captain Eric. Please pass along that he will be missed and best wishes in any new endeavor. We have been treated by both captains with courtesy and kindness. I for one would like him back.

I’m a cancer warrior that is struggling to survive in this economy.. I live just down the road from the ferry .and I wish we could just buy a single ticket from time to time to enjoy the ride and beach .not everyone can afford a yearly pass. And now the limited schedule .. it’s good to get rid of a sexual predator as a boat captain .. but perhaps opening the use of the ferry to more people by allowing a day pass ticket you could afford to hire a new ferry boat captain.

Thank you for your comment. The SVBET does not offer short-term passes for the Ferry in order to keep costs low for everyone. With respect to your comment on the Captain recently dismissed, the SVBET refers you to the post on the website.

South Venice is a wonderful community to live in. We enjoy occasional cooling breezes from the gulf and a fair amount of unbuilt upon land along the coast. We are not Camelot. Unfortunately, unpleasant problems occur here too. Thanks to the people who volunteer their time so we can enjoy what we have. Thanks also to anyone who speaks up when they feel something is unsafe or a threat to our way of life. Let’s try to recognize all the good things we have and stay united as we work to solve problems that occur.

I am just disappointed and angry that people can act like middle school gossiping children to the point it disrupts a persons livelihood and reputation along with all of us who pay for the ferry. People keep your noses to yourself, sit down, shut up and enjoy the ferry ride. Let’s keep the faith they do their due diligence on hiring people and GOD I HOPE YOU TRY TO GET HIM BACK AND OFFER HIM A RAISE. We love both those gentlemen!

I have tried to send you a questionon the website, but nothing happens. Web Master needs to take a look.

Where can I find on the website the annual financial report which per 5.4 Accounting and Public Norice should be readily avaiable to members of South Venice? I cannot locate it. If not on website, where can I find it?

Thank you for your question. The Trust Agreement section you cite, 5.4 Accountings and Public Notice, requires preparation of a Trust Endowment Fund administration or financial report annually. Since its inception, the Trust has published the required information in the South Venice Civic Association’s monthly publication, The Wave, at the end of the calendar year. The SVBET has been in the process of launching a new website and plans to include financial information under the documents section in the near future.

As a private trust, the SVBET is not required to have public meetings. The SVBET currently has 5 volunteer trustees. The SVBET office hours are Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Trustees usually attempt to perform SVBET business during these hours and meet as needed. The website has contact forms that send emails to the SVBET email (trust@southvenicebeach.org). The SVBET attempts to reply to all questions in a timely fashion, but response depends upon circumstances. The SVBET encourages members to use the website or send emails direct.

Is there a plan to get the ferry back to previous operating hours? I purchased a ferry pass which is not cheap, but with the new hours and my work schedule I will not be able to use it at all through the week or see the sunsets I enjoy. Please advise.

Thanks for the question. Yes, the SVBET is working to find new Captains to pilot the Ferry.
