6 August 2024 – The Beach Ferry will reopen on 7 August 2024 and will run under the normal schedule beginning at 8:30 AM. The Ferry was pulled out of the water and placed on a trailer in the parking lot prior to the storm, so there was no Ferry damage. There was flooding in the Ferry Dockhouse, including the Captain’s office. Thanks to the preparation by Joe Lewis and Capt. Phil, all power was turned off and all sensitive items were raised off the floor. Consequently, there was no damage. Unfortunately, the Beach Live Stream was damaged due to the wind and it is being repaired by volunteers.
There is much cleanup to do, so please be aware that there is much debris on the grounds. The beach did take a beating and the waves crested over the dune in several places. The boardwalk and stairs are well constructed and they were undamaged. There is more erosion, but the pilings are securely anchored. It could have been much worse. Thanks to Trustees Joe and Gail, as well as Capt. Phil and Capt. Eric for getting the Ferry and infrastructure ready for return to service on Wednesday, 7 August 2024.
